Plot[]

When the Earl of Sandwich gives his new food a disgusting name, 'Stinky Pile of Poo', (insisting this is his mother's maiden name) no one will buy it. Meanwhile the Larry 3000's souffles become a sensation. Time Squad manages to successfully get the sandwich circulating around the world, but only by shutting up the Earl and having Otto name it.

Synopsis[]

On the satellite, Larry is cooking a dessert when Tuddrussel walks in, hungry. Tuddrussel eagerly eats the dessert, but spits it out, complaining that it is too girly. He and Larry argue about how food should taste when the History Instability Alarm goes off. The team sees that the mission is the Earl of Sandwich and heads out.The team arrives in front of the Earl’s house. Tuddrussel knocks, shows the Earl his badge, and hurriedly enters the house, expecting to find donuts to eat. The Earl explains to the team that he is on the verge of creating a culinary masterpiece, but is missing something. He then shows them a sandwich and electrocutes it in a Dr. Frankenstein-like manner. The result is deemed too crispy, and the Earl sadly shows Time Squad his other failed sandwiches, one of which Tuddrussel eats despite Otto's warning not to since one of them is very moldy. He is upset that the Royal Cook-Off is tomorrow, and he has nothing to make. Otto introduces the Earl to Larry, saying that he is one of the finest chefs anywhere and will definitely be able to help. Larry's agreement is interrupted by Tuddrussel being sick off of one of the sandwiches tasting awful.

The next day, Time Squad is with the Earl at the Cook-Off, where the Earl is thanking Larry for his genius and helping him complete his sandwich by adding mayonnaise. The judge tastes the meals prepared by other participants, declaring them to be tasty because he likes their names and their tastes. However, when the Earl arrives with his sandwich, he calls it “Stinky Pile of Poo,” repulsing the judge before he can taste it, and earning a low score. Otto asks what the Earl was thinking for giving his creation the awful name. Tuddrussel tells him to worry about it later, pointing out that Larry is in front of the judge. They watch him offer the judge the same dessert he made earlier, calling it “The Larry 3000.” The judge is intrigued by the name, and judges it to have the best taste. Larry boasts to Tuddrussel that he was right about his dessert being delicious, but Tuddrussel insults it again, prompting Larry to make it for the rest of the kingdom. Meanwhile, the Earl decides to ignore the judge’s opinion and sell his “Stinky Pile of Poo.” He ignores Otto’s pleas to change its name, saying that it was his mother’s maiden name.

A montage is shown featuring the restaurants of the Earl and of Larry. On the grand opening day to the fanfare of horns, Larry names his grand restaurant the "Larry 3000", cuts the ribbon and is carried inside by his adoring fans. The Earl starts up his restaurant called the "Stinky Pile of Poo", but has a hard time cutting open the ribbon due to the dullness of the scissors' blades, finally ripping it, being unable to unlock his door and having Tuddrussel kick it open for him. Due to the disgusting name he gave his sandwich, it never has a single customer and struggles. Larry's restaurant becomes more popular with over a million served and people watches him cook in adoration. The Earl tries to market a two for one deal for anyone to come into his restaurant and try his sandwich. He continues struggling to find customers for 3 months and which Tuddrussel is growing bored with his attempts. Larry becomes extremely rich and popular, having started selling his cookbooks. On the verge of financial ruin, the Earl finally concedes defeat and realize how awful the name he gave his sandwich really is. He begs Otto to help him out and find customers for him. He decides that he and Tuddrussel need to speak to Larry.

Immediately, Otto and Tuddrussel visits Larry and demands to see him. His secretary tries to make them leave, but Tuddrussel refuses. He barges into Larry’s office before she could call security on him. Otto and Tuddrussel finds Larry is cowering behind a chair. At first, he doesn't recognize the two thinking them to be fanatics. However, Larry is soon delighted once he hears Tuddrussel's voice and he realizes it's him and Otto. He finally opens up about how his life has been and complains that he hates being a celebrity chef. He hates having so much adoration when it’s all due to his dessert, having to open up locations all over the globe, investors want him to start his own line of cookware and worse off they made an action figure of himself. Tuddrussel is at first jealous of this, but Otto tells him to focus. Larry offers to do anything if they will help him escape.

Later, the team and the Earl are in Larry’s busy restaurant. Disguised as a waiter, Otto brings a customer a sandwich instead of the Larry 3000. The customer finds it delicious, and asks for it's name. Just before the Earl could give it the horrible name, Tuddrussel immediately covers his mouth and effectively silencing him. Otto correctly gives it the name, sandwich, and which the customer is impressed. He asks the others to try the creation. In another Cook-Off, the Earl gives the judge his sandwich(having finally denounced the awful name he gave it earlier at Otto's request). This time he does taste it and finds it so delicious he quickly swallows the entire sandwich in one bite. The judge declares the sandwich to be “extraordinary.” The Earl becomes extremely popular and famous, and he thanks Time Squad before being carried away. Larry is glad to be back with his real friends, though he is annoyed as Tuddrussel insults his cooking again.

Trivia[]

  • The title of the episode is a parody of A rose by any other name would smell as sweet" which is a popular adage from William Shakespeare's play “Romeo and Juliet.”
    • Incidentally, Shakespeare would make an appearance in the episode “Child’s Play.”
  • The Earl of Sandwich featured in the episode is not in the least bit historically accurate.
    • Rather than a chef, the Earl of Sandwich is actually a noble title in the House of Montagu in England, associated with Sandwich, Kent. The earl who's credited for inventing the popular food is John Montagu (1718-1792), who was the 4th Earl of Sandwich. Despite being a statesman and member of the military in the mid-1700s, the Earl is most known for being a gambler. During his gambling games, he used to order to his cooks to serve him meat between two slices of bread, making them request "the same as Sandwich". In this way, the sandwich became popular until today, although the accuracy of this story is often contested.
    • Larry's image of the Earl was actually an image of the first Earl of Sandwich, Edward Montagu, who had nothing to do with the sandwich.
  • The judge at the Cook-Off only tastes foods with interesting names. He judges "Soup de Jour Royale" (soup with a bird's feet in it) and "Meat Kabob Flambé" (a black, shriveled mouse on a fork).
  • The dessert known as "The Larry 3000" is Larry's specialty, which he says is goat cheese shitake soufflé brûlée croissant mousse with mint-scallions.
  • Larry is stressed out as a celebrity because investors want him to create a line of signature cookware,  he has restaurants opening in Tokyo and Las Vegas, and he has his own action figure.
  • In 1762, Tokyo wouldn't have been open to international restaurants, and Las Vegas wasn't a city.
  • Later, Larry says that he had millions of dollars, adoring fans, and a 200-ft catamaran.
